Post-Frame Firewall Assembly: Report of Standard Methods of Fire Tests of Building Construction and Materials (PDF)
The purpose of this study, conducted by Inchcape Testing Services, is to establish a 1-hour fire rating from the interior of an exterior wall system. With compartments and an efficient protection system, such as sprinklers, fires can be localized and more easily suppressed. Dimension lumber, metal plate connected trusses, glued-laminated timbers and other structural wood products have a long history of solid fire endurance performance. Post-frame buildings typically feature steel cladding that is fire-resistant. As this study reports, like other types of buildings, post-frame buildings may be erected to provide effective fire resistance in accordance with building requirements.
Load Testing Report (PDF)
This report provides a quantitative analysis of post frame diaphragm load shear strength, shear stiffness, and elasticity. Testing was conducted on 12 wood-framed, steel panel diaphragm designs, 12 roof diaphragms and 15 endwall diaphragms. Test variables include diaphragm size, framing lumber, steel profile, screw pattern and girt or purlin configuration.
